I ran a live PCC exam prep session today with a small group of coaches. Wendy joined from South Africa, where it was already evening. Micheline joined from Canada. Trevor was in Ottawa, a month out from his own exam. Adrienne, Nina, Jackie, and Ira rounded out the group, from Atlanta to Chesapeake, Virginia, to wherever a laptop happens to be open on a Friday afternoon.
I told them upfront that I'm not a master of this exam either. I built CredentialPrep because I'd already spent a lot of money on my own credentialing path and didn't feel like paying for another course. So we did what I think works: we read through real scenario questions together, guessed at the best and worst answers, and talked through our reasoning out loud, disagreements included.

What stood out
The client-centered versus coach-centered lens does most of the work. Across every question, the pattern that kept surfacing was simple to say and hard to apply under pressure: is this answer led by what the client needs, or by what the coach thinks, feels, or wants to prove? Watch at 14:33 Trevor picked out the acknowledgment language as his tell for a strong answer. Micheline caught the assumption buried in a seemingly caring response. Both were reading for the same thing from different angles.
Coaches trip over their own good intentions. One scenario asked what to do when a client repeats a pattern involving their mother. The instinct several of us had, myself included, was to ask more questions before saying anything. Nina called it her "Russian mentality." But the ICF's logic here is more direct: if you've noticed something worth naming, your job is to notice and share it, not quietly investigate first. Watch at 36:48
Not every wrong answer is wrong for the same reason. We spent real time on the difference between a coach who suggests something and a coach who asks a leading question dressed up as curiosity. Micheline pushed back hard on the idea that verb choice alone tells you the answer, and she was right to. Sometimes the exam wants you to look past the verb and into what the coach is doing. Confidentiality has almost no gray area. Late in the session, we hit a scenario about a coach being asked whether they work with a specific person. Ira nailed the logic immediately: you don't confirm or deny another client's identity, period, even if the alternative sounds more human. Most PCC questions live in genuine gray area. This one didn't, and it was useful to feel that difference in real time. Watch at 49:54
What's next

Nina said something near the end that stuck with me. She's sat through a lot of exam prep sessions, and this was the first one where hearing other people's reasoning out loud, disagreements and all, helped her more than another explanation would have. In her own words:
